Herbert Clark Hoover — born August 10, 1874, in West Branch, Iowa — was a mining engineer, humanitarian relief organizer, and Secretary of Commerce before serving as the 31st President of the United States from March 1929 through March 1933. He died October 20, 1964, in New York City at age ninety.
