William A. Smoot
Successor at the Smoot lumber firm. Renamed the business W. A. Smoot & Co. and expanded into the planing-mill and millwork lines that would supply major Washington public buildings.
William A. Smoot took over the family lumber firm in the late nineteenth century, operating it as W. A. Smoot & Co. from waterfront facilities in Alexandria.
